Joe Craigie to lead our unwavering commitment to Indigenous participation

UGL has an unwavering commitment to Indigenous participation – which includes employing Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, procuring from Indigenous business on our operations and projects and creating industry partnerships. This focus will continue within UGL Regional Linx with the establishment of the organisation’s Indigenous Engagement Team, led by Joseph Craigie – Aboriginal and Social Engagement Manager.

Whilst Joe is new to UGLRL, coming onboard in August this year, he isn’t new to UGL, having assisted with its CRN bid and tender process over a period of 7 months in 2020. In his consultant role over this period, Joe provided his expertise and experience in a representative role covering the northern part of NSW. 

When the opportunity arose for Joe to join the UGLRL team in a permanent capacity he was ‘hooked’ and relished the opportunity to be involved with a company which is committed to doing more in relation to Aboriginal participation, community involvement and Indigenous procurement.

When Joe joined UGLRL he was focused on establishing partnerships and increasing engagement with Indigenous individuals, organisations, and communities. Joe has a strong background in this space having previously worked in public servant roles as Acting Regional Manager for Aboriginal Affairs and The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission. 

The UGLRL Aboriginal Participation Plan is focused on ensuring place-based engagement with Traditional Owners on country, procuring goods and services from local Aboriginal businesses, providing career-development opportunities, developing a culturally mature workforce and diverse supply chain. In relation to employment, UGLRL has identified a 12% commencement rate for Indigenous employment that is aimed at growing to 20% over 5 years.
