Luke Cunningham, Head of Asset and Engineering at UGL Regional Linx (UGLRL), had the privilege of presenting to 2nd year civil engineering students at Charles Sturt University's Bathurst campus last month. Engaging with students from Bathurst, Orange, Dubbo, Wagga Wagga and Armidale, Luke witnessed their enthusiasm for learning about the future of country rail infrastructure.
Charles Sturt University's innovative program, blending coursework with extensive industry placements in regional locations, resonated deeply with Luke. The dedication to practical learning aligns perfectly with the challenges and opportunities presented by the Country Regional Network (CRN).
During the presentation, Luke delved into the unique aspects of the CRN and its significance in regional transportation and economic development. From connecting remote communities to facilitating the transportation of goods, the CRN plays a vital role in supporting regional industries and fostering growth.
What stood out was the students' keen interest in the CRN as a potential career path. They recognised the opportunities it offers for project delivery, infrastructure maintenance, and innovation, and were eager to explore how they could contribute to its enhancement and sustainability.
This was a great opportunity for UGLRL to work closely with Charles Sturt University and its students, a collaboration we hope to continue. Such collaborations not only benefit students by providing real-world insights and opportunities but also enrich the industry with fresh perspectives and talent.
Looking towards the future, Luke is excited about the potential for continued engagement and partnership between industry leaders like UGL and educational institutions like Charles Sturt University. Together, we can pave the way for a brighter future for country rail infrastructure and the next generation of engineers.
